News from Colorado, Michigan

According to The Daily Vail, applicants for a gravel extraction operation along the Colorado River will return to the Eagle County Planning Commission requesting a special use permit to begin mining. County staff has recommended the commission approve the special use permit with conditions. Ideas for a gravel pit in the Dotsero area along the Colorado River have been rejected twice since 2016, but the project found a new life in 2022 following a ruling from the Eagle County Planning Commission which said the project does not need an exception to the Dotsero Area Community Plan to be approved.

According to Michigan Live, a Michigan company hasn’t taken no for an answer when it comes to its plans to develop a 400-acre sand and gravel mine in rural Washtenaw County. Michigan Materials and Aggregates Co., also known as Stoneco of Michigan, is taking Sharon Township to court to appeal officials’ denial of a zoning permit for the project, as well as alleging township ordinances break state law in a separate lawsuit.
